John Willis Zumwalt

John was born on 6/6/66 in Sacramento, CA.

John was born on 6/6/66 in Sacramento, CA. At the age of five his parents took him to Taiwan, where they served as missionaries for 17 years. Having grown up on the mission field, John saw the fear of demons that gripped peoples lives. John graduated from Northwest Nazarene College with a degree in fine arts—oil painting and pottery—just what you’d expect of a minister! But God had grabbed a hold of his life and given John a heart for the peoples of the world who are not yet experiencing the Kingdom of God.

During those college years, he visited Thailand for several months to help some missionaries in the Golden Triangle of the northern hills working among the Shan, Karen and Chinese of Northern Thailand. While there, John was arrested as a Russian spy, and through that and several other life threatening events, God spoke to John, challenging him to live his life no longer as his own but as an offering to God.

John returned to the U.S. changed. He started World Christian Fellowship on his college campus for the mobilization of students into frontier missions. Upon graduation, he and his wife, Jamie, served as missionaries in Taiwan among the Hakka and Taiwanese, before returning to the States to continue mobilizing students to become cross-cultural frontier missionaries.

John has served as a mobilizer for frontier missions for over twenty five years. 20 years ago, John and Jamie founded a mission agency and have trained over 300 long-term pioneer missionaries currently serving from North Africa to Far East Asia! In 2016, they founded Outrageous Love, which is dedicated to hastening global common good by gathering do-gooders into inclusive communities that empower the most marginalized.

John received a Doctorate of Divinity from International University for Graduate Studies. He has authored the book, Passion for the Heart of God, and travels and mobilizes churches around the world, encouraging them to join God in His love for the nations.

John serves as Associate Pastor, alongside his wife, Jamie, who pastors a local church located in the heart of a “red light district” in Oklahoma City. Ministry in this location is through a unique coffeehouse/community center that has established a genuine Community of Hope in this neighborhood that was characterized by despair. The coffeehouse, called Joe’s Addiction, is one example of the kind of Communities that John and Jamie train missionaries to reproduce among the unreached.

John is married to his beautiful wife, Jamie, and they have five biological kids and several others who have come to consider John and Jamie parents. John has been called a “hair farmer” and genuinely believes that facial hair was a gift given by God for the purpose of creative expression. His passion and zeal, so often delivered with humor, make John a powerful speaker that leaves the hearers ready to give more of themselves to God and to his cause around the world. The Zumwalt family live in Oklahoma City.
